Emby is a Server-Client home media solution, previously known as Media Browser. Emby can be used to centralize your media content, manage its metadata and artwork, access your content on a multitude of different devices, share content with family and friends and best of all its open source.
The Emby Server is available for Windows, Mac and Linux users, plugins are available for most NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices as well as support for Docker containers. I currently run Emby Server from a Microsoft Server 2012 installation on a HP Microserver G7 and found it be flawless.
Emby Server automatically converts and streams your media on-the-fly to play on any device, which brings us to the Emby Client.
Emby Client / Web Interface
All your media is available via the Emby Web Interface utilizing your standard web browser or alternatively Emby provides clients for a wide range of Mobile and Media devices. Please refer to the Emby Download Page for a comprehensive list of supported devices.
I currently utilize the Web Client, Android Client and the KODI plugin via a Rasberry PI to access all my media without fault. If you want to know more about utilizing a Raspberry PI as a media center please take a look at the OSMC project.
Emby is an excellent server-client media solution, with compatibility wide a range of devices. The Emby community is very active and always welcoming to new users. Whether your looking to centralize all your media or replace an existing media server solution Emby is a great open source option.
